Just think about this for a minute: we have a judicial system that utilises jurors that are expected to be as impartial as possible right? But when that system was created, nobody thought there would be social media and the current speed at which unregulated opinion can be cast out there into the public domain. When mobile phones came along, we thought it was just a simple case of asking people to turn their phones off, but now…..
So, what changes need to be made?
Some people want the world to reset back to a time they felt they had it good. OK, but did others have it good? I cannot think of a past era where everyone or even a majority had it good, and one can go as far back as you want, even to biblical days.
Perhaps one can then conclude that we need a reset to an era we have not yet had? An era where human beings have learnt to be human? An era where we seek peace, joy and happiness for all or at least for the majority of the inhabitants of our planet and not just for a few. An era where none of us is satisfied until all or most of us are satisfied
I can already hear the responses to that: what a socialist bore! what a naive fool! why should everyone have it good? they don’t deserve it! they’re not smart enough! their leaders are too corrupt! it’s not our problem!
Therein lies the dilemma……
Our laws, our processes, our institutions are all struggling to keep up. Technology and uncontrolled innovation was not taken into account when they were created and nobody wants to modernise or take on that challenge of making them fit-for-purpose
We have just witnessed what a pandemic can do. The world watched on idly, when we thought Covid-19 wasn’t our business or our problem. Millions of needless deaths later and NOTHING is going to change. No lessons have been learnt. We will simply find vaccines and carry on
We hold each other in disdain.
