Fortune favours the horrible…

The good cower and whisper their goodness in the background. The nasty folk are brazen and shout their nastiness from the rooftop. Well, which would prevail?

There is of course always a philosophical take on it, that goodness quietly prevails.

Who knows?

At the end of the day, what is good? and what is bad?
Perhaps all just a figment of our imagination?

You look at El Salvador, thousands of heavily tattooed gang members spent years terrifying the public. Their streets were unwalkable day & night. Now, many of those gang folk are banged up in prisons without due process, without trial. But the streets are safer. Murder rates are down. Some of those heavily tattooed folk banged up in prisons probably never committed a crime and in any case, their guilt hasn’t been legally proven. That is indeed how complex the concept of good & bad is….

We can sit here and say, well, you let the law run its course, but with years of nothing happening in a place like El Salvador, they had to do something…

When good people whisper goodness in the background but are not willing to take the heat and stand for what they believe in, we end in situations we are in today, across the world, where people are dying left, right and centre, regardless of who is right or wrong, we all look the other way. There are so many excuses put forward by both sides, but the end point always seems to be needless, avoidable deaths of so many innocent people.
Illegal migration is a crucial example: when bodies of children wash up on the shores of rivers, all sides defend an indefensible position. People smugglers, governments & reasons for displacement, be it conflict, economy etc. What does it matter what the reasons are? You have a dead innocent child…

I do not believe we’ve ever been able to grasp the meaning of good or bad. Perhaps it’s not a tangible concept. What’s clear though, is that we are in perilous times. People marching to protest all sorts. Organisations formed to make things right and then their finances reveal embezzlement of epic proportions…

We were so, so close in the 90s (at least, here in the UK) to ‘live & let live’, where everyone just wanted to get along and just do the best we could each do…

an everyday professional wondering (as many others do daily) what all the animosity is all about? we all came with nothing (as babies), didn’t choose where we popped out and we will all leave (when we die) with nothing.
