…. and we’re still 4 weeks to the end of the year. 122 crossed last Sunday. Around 65 have died.
It doesn’t matter whether or not the folks that are angry about this situation have all the facts, this situation is indeed concerning. It was also reported that legal net migration to the UK hit 906,000 in June and that 1 in 5 of those migrating (legally) to the UK are not in employment!
We of course must give the new government – who are only 5 months in – a chance to find real solutions to this problem. And I have every confidence that they will, because they have the right approach and intention.
We cannot have an uncontrolled or uncontrollable border. It makes a mockery of our sovereignty and abuse the hospitality of the British people. It doesn’t matter what the arguments are, or what the circumstances are, people should respect Britain and I believe this relentless channel crossings are disrespectful and there needs to be an arrangement with France, to process folk seeking refuge at their point of arrival (in France) and the French must secure their border, such that France doesn’t become a gateway to people using the English Channel to float across into the UK. It has become an adventure of sorts and the numbers are just staggering. It’s not right. It’s also not fair on Britain. The resulting hatred that it breeds, is also not right. If Britain is to return to being a happy, hospitable, welcoming country, these illegal entries must stop and the border secured. Then, people can get back to seeking refuge via legal entry.
