The demise of Christianity has possibly left a void that previously held some in society accountable by piety

I do not follow any religion and have never been religious. And yes, many will quickly point out that Christianity did not prevent slavery, colonialism, the inquisition and several other heinous acts of humanity to date. Ok. But when you look at how completely soulless society have become, with opportunists and charlatans everywhere you look. People standing up saying they speak for the poor and seek freedom of speech etc., when all they’re after is just an opportunity to spread hate or make money…

The rise of heartless crimes such as knife crimes that have now become so commonplace in London, is definitely one that the threat of eternal damnation perhaps kept a bay. But seriously, one thing the Sunday Schools and Christian sermons did back in the day, was instil a little bit of respect for human life over here.

Yes, Christianity was never a global panacea. You only have to look at the spate of crime across the most Christian parts of the world, and in particular, Latin America, to see that. But in the UK, it definitely made a difference as the current void left by the disappearance of churches and churchgoing, is very clear to see. This isn’t about making a case for a return of churches & churchgoing, but we may have to find something to fill the void, as social media ain’t the answer!

Society has descended right to the abyss!
