Anyone remember the first weeks of Covid? Anyone?…

The newspapers had stories of 80year olds being shoved aside in supermarkets as people rushed to grab stuff off the shelves. Many were hoarding stuff. Toilet paper ran out across the country as people hoarded them.

And Covid was a mini emergency compared to a World War.

Who wants to see their children carted off, hastily trained and sent off to war?

So, when you read about elected politicians in the US talking about a civil war if the candidate they support in an election doesn’t win, we should all be bothered about such talk. But even more worrying, is what has now become a very casual discussion of the possibility of a 3rd world war. Seriously? What exactly do wars achieve? We’ve had 2 world wars and barely 80 years after the last one – and yes, a handful of veterans from that war are still alive today – we see rioting on the streets of the UK because some people say they don’t want migrants reducing their access to benefits! We read about politicians in the US, calling migrants (other human beings) vile names and accusing them of eating pets. The people who gave their lives in World War 2, did so, believing they are giving their lives to ensure we have a world where there is tolerance. They gave their lives believing it was worthwhile, to give the rest of us a life where we all see each other as human beings and never have to fight another war. But here we are, are few decades later and we appear ready and willing to start wars…

The uncontrolled influx of illegal migrants forcing their way into the country is indeed a big issue, and one that needs to be addressed. But for goodness sake! These people are human beings. We cannot ram them on the high seas or leave them to drown! We need measures that will get them to apply for refuge or asylum via standard, safe routes and legally – those measures should include coming down hard on the people who are exploiting them, the ones employing them illegally when they get here etc. But these issues are no reason for us to start burning things down and rioting.

If we know of reasons why the world could contemplate another world war, we should be actively seeking to address those issues now. We should be finding solutions now. With what we have seen of people in the past few years, right across the world, human beings have totally lost our value of human life. It matters little these days, how many people get killed in conflicts or drown trying to cross the English Channel. We do not appear to care. So, goodness help us, if there was another world war! Wars must become a thing of the past. There must be other ways to settle conflicts….

an everyday professional wondering (as many others do daily) what all the animosity is all about? we all came with nothing (as babies), didn’t choose where we popped out and we will all leave (when we die) with nothing.
