It is definitely a mental health crisis!
Has the world suddenly changed so much? I don’t think so. It is still largely what it used to be, but the only very obvious change, is that we have now embraced and celebrate meanness and hatred. Openly.
I am a firm believer of the fact that any race or nation, could have done pretty much the same horrid stuff as we accuse others of doing in the past. As such, looking back and pointing fingers, is pointless. But it is indeed very concerning, that we have now moved into an era where decency is dead. An era where shame is dead and people are emboldened to get out in public and utter horrible, nasty words. All the horrible stuff of years gone by, things we thought were never ever likely to recur, are now all lining up, ready to happen again.
It just seems so hopeless.
How do you do a reset? It appears to have gone too far. I do not believe 40,000+ people per year, should be rowing into the UK across the English Channel, forcing their ways in, because they know that we area civilised society and as such, cannot just ram them back down the channel. But when the levels of poverty in some parts of the UK is where it has been for the last 10 years, with so many Brits waiting for housing, not getting access to healthcare and schools are rundown with kids going hungry, it is perhaps unfair, for the same folk, to see 40,000+ people rowing in every year via the English Channel to be put up in hotels. I have empathy for these folk seeking asylum and I do understand their plight and the hardship they may be facing, but it has now got to a point where it is impossible for me not to also see the reasons why the poverty-stricken folk in the UK are getting fed up with this and feeling aggrieved. The reaction must always be civil of course. The language and rhetoric appear to be getting more and more dangerous each day. We must find a way – URGENTLY – to solve this problem and seek to return society to the days where we would be ashamed to openly celebrate hatred!
It is naive to think there is a solution that won’t come with some unpleasantness such as deportation. It is inevitable. But it isn’t something to be celebrated.
We are all at liberty to choose who we like. But the minute we start hating some people because of what they look like or the circumstances they are in, THAT, in my humble opinion, is a mental health problem. It ain’t normal!!
