Our government must do better at explaining itself and trying a lot harder, to get people to understand that the government is indeed trying to help us all….

I do not see any other reason Kier Starmer would be cosying up to the EU, other than for the very obvious fact that we don’t have a choice. He is very well aware of the huge number of Brits who voted to exit the EU and he is not stupid. He understands fully well that he can’t afford to lose all those votes at the next election. So, why would he still carry on attempting a Brexit reset? Well, for the very simply reason that the people who pushed for Brexit, did not tell their supporters how bad it will hurt our economy (and I believe it is for the simple reason that none of them – Brexiteers and Remainers alike – knew the full likelihood of the resulting impact).

Can Britain survive outside the EU, with no dealings with the EU; of course. But it will be very painful. And the people who will get hit hardest, are the very same people who voted for Brexit, but they do not realise it. When they do get it, when the impact becomes unbearable, they will deflect and find other reasons and other folk to blame for the hardship. This is what Starmer knows a responsible government cannot allow to happen, as it will lead to anarchy e.g. the summer riots of 2024.

But other than silently ploughing away and trying to help the people regardless, and being beaten up for it, on a daily basis, would it not make more sense for Starmer to set up community discussion sessions and sponsor TV sessions where his Cabinet can explain the details of the impact of turning our back completely against the EU? Can he not try to show the people the impacts and why there must be a compromise, a sort of reset! If he is indeed trying to do this for the greater good, why not take that extra – painful as it may be – step to get people to understand that he is doing it for them!!???

Why do it in silence. Public opinion matter! The government need to try to bring the people along. Even if they fail to convince many who are already entrenched and set against Labour and Starmer. The government must persevere and still try. Run local discussion forums, set up community engagement events; show people the reality of the situation: it is the very same poor, angry people who feel they are not being listened to on various topics (Brexit, immigration etc) who will suffer even more, if the UK doesn’t find a middle ground to get some deals done with the EU, even if we still have to be outside the EU (as we must, given the choice the exit the EU was democratic and the majority – slight or not – won the referendum)
